The 5th International İzmir Art Biennial is about to be held from May three to May 6, revolving around the “Beyond the World.”
Including four artists from Colombia, Russia, India, and Peru, seventy-five artists will participate in the biennial, where 111 artworks will be showcased.
The biennial will take place at the İzmir State Painting and Sculpture Museum in Konak, Kültürpark Art Gallery, and Seba Art Gallery.
As 2019 is the Year of Göbeklitepe, artists will display 32 pieces determined in Göbeklitepe. Archeological gem researchers have found it to be the first time inside the international dating 12,000 years again, inside the scope of the 4th Golden City Project in the biennial course.
Among the artists to take part in the biennial is Several Özcan, a painter and lecturer at Istanbul Medipol University.
Özcan, who creates compositions with numerous textures and layers on the canvas to mixture the east and west artwork and her personal fashion, graduated from Ankara University Faculty of Communication and Marmara University Department of Fine Arts.
She acquired her Master of Arts diploma from the Institute of Fine Arts at Marmara University, wherein she is currently persevering with her doctoral studies.
Özcan’s most up-to-date paintings, “The Other World,” may be on display at the biennial.
Dominated by way of green color, the work consists of the 15th-sixteenth century Uşak carpet motifs. In the outer element surrounding the composition, an octal medallion shape, one of the basic ornament forms of Islamic art in geometric ornaments, is positioned. The artist created a layered texture with conventional carpet motifs in remedy on the canvas.
In her paintings titled the “Other World,” Özcan draws interest to longing, peace, and happiness with all shades and shade transitions of green.
Her paintings can be seen in the exhibition within the corridor of the Culture and Tourism Ministry and the İzmir State Painting and Sculpture Museum.
